Producer, musician, and podcaster Caitlin Dee is my guest on the podcast this week. She’s the co-host of the podcast, Goth Yearbook After hours, a former member of LA-based band Pipe Dreams, and a talented massage therapist.

Listen in as we talk about how she got her start in music, how she was able to take advantage of lockdown to improve her skills and pivot her business, why we need to take a break from our hustle, and how she keeps strong as a female in a male-dominated industry.

Quotes that stood out

  • “So much creativity is born of limitation and it’s called ‘playing music.’”

  • “There are advantages to being a woman in the industry now. It’s definitely more coveted as far as diversifying a lineup, and people are more interested in female-driven projects right now than ever before.”

  • “You have your day job and then you make music as well. You do the thing you love, but then you never have a day off.”

  • “You teach to learn - the idea is you don’t have to be the utmost expert, and in fact, being less than that is going to make you more relatable for someone who knows nothing.”

  • “I try to get feedback from people, but you can’t just change everything about yourself that people want you to change.”
