Top 5 Podcasts for the Entrepreneur
I am obsessed with podcasts. I would probably go so far as to call myself a podcast nerd these days, which is a total 180 from last year when I could barely stand to listen to podcasts. There was only one I could sink my teeth into (Washed Up Emo) and the rest literally just put me to sleep.
It turns out, I just hadn't found the right podcasts to listen to. Once I did...well let's just say my Spotify has been lonely lately.
Why Podcasts?
Why not? Like any other form of technology, social network, or website, podcasts bring the world a little closer together. The good ones, and I mean the really good ones, inspire, motivate, teach, make you laugh, make you cry, and make you feel like you're part of a community.
What am I listening to?
These are my top 5 podcasts about female entrepreneurs, bloggers, and women realizing their self-truths. These podcasts have all inspired and taught me so much more about business, entrepreneurship, love, and life than I could have ever learned in a classroom. I love them, and I hope you do too.
She Did It Her Way podcast
The podcast that started it all.
I toyed with thoughts of entrepreneurship, blogging, and creating something that was my own in the past, but despite taking a graduate entrepreneurship course I just didn't know where to start. I had the tools but I lacked the inspiration, the kick in the butt that I needed to just go for it.
I've listened to close to 100 She Did It Her Way episodes with female entrepreneurs from across all industries around the globe. These women all have successful businesses, podcasts, blogs - you name it. But do you want to know a secret? They were once in my shoes, in your shoes. They discuss their beginnings, the setbacks and the failures that eventually led to their success. These women talk about reinventing themselves, pivoting their businesses, and pushing forward even when they were told "no" or felt the effects of a male dominated industry.
I trust in Amanda, her guests, and her message so much that I bought a plane ticket to Chicago to attend the She Did It Her Way Summit at the end of the month. If you're at all interested in entrepreneurship, this is definitely a podcast to listen to.

Goal Digger podcast
Jenna Kutcher is the ultimate real girl. She not only blogs and podcasts about being an entrepreneur and growing your business, but she gets honest about her struggles and successes, not only in business but in her personal life. Jenna hosts some pretty amazing entrepreneurial guests with their own insight to business, as well as tips and tricks of their trade.
What I love most about Jenna is how real she gets in her podcasts, blog, and social media posts. She is honest to who she is and makes no apologies, which is admirable in the smoke and mirrors of social media today. Her integrity and self-respect is what we need to see in entrepreneurs and the business world.

She Means Business - Carrie Green
Carrie Green, the founder of the Female Entrepreneur Association, and author of She Means Business!, guides you through becoming a successful entrepreneur in her She Means Business Podcast.
I’m going to be honest, I haven’t listened to many episodes of She Means Business, but the few I have listened to so far had incredible impact on my outlook and this blog. Like She Did It Her Way, She Means Business is full of interviews from successful female entrepreneurs from industries around the world who describe what it takes to become an entrepreneur, getting into the entrepreneur mindset, steps to take to become successful, and designing a life you love. This is definitely the podcast to listen to if you’re interested in becoming an entrepreneur and ditching your 9-5.
Okay, but these aren't music podcasts. What gives?
One thing I've learned in my journey is that we can't, no matter what, keep our head in the sand or stay within our own four walls. To create a successful business, blog, podcast, record, book, or whatever else you're creating, you need to draw from the world around you, to be inspired by other industries, explore other creative methods, and to learn from neighbors and strangers alike.
These podcasts have done it for me. They've all made me take a step back, evaluate my current situation, and say "Now THAT is how I want to live." I've taken chances I would have never taken, gained courage, reached out to people, signed up for workshops and conferences (some that even require flights and hotel stays), and pushed myself to create a life I want.
Maybe some of these podcasts aren't for you and you'd rather listen to the music business podcasts, or spend your time on Spotify day in and day out. That's okay, and as musician-entrepreneurs we do need to pay attention to and immerse ourselves in our industy. But give these podcasts a try. Who knows, you may be inspired to take a leap and change your life completely.
