Podcasts are the hottest thing since streaming. With over one million shows and over 30 million episodes (www.podcastinsights.com/podcast-statistics), that’s a lot of podcasting. And it doesn’t seem to be slowing down.

There’s a podcast for everything, for everyone. In fact, it’s where I get my news, where I catch up on the latest social media and online business trends, and where I listen to my favorite musicians and actors chat about their new projects.

While it does feel like the podcast market is oversaturated, I promise you there’s still room at the table. Someone wants to hear your story and what you have to say to the world.

And whether you’re hosting your own podcast or pitching yourself to become a guest, podcasts can help your career or business.

The Impact of a Podcast

I’m where I’m at in my career and business right now because of my podcast. It helped me build a network of women in the music industry. It gave me the tools and education on how a podcast should be run and managed. Each time I release an episode with a guest, it not only reaches my core audience but the friends, family, colleagues, and fans of my guest.

Plus, I’m establishing myself as an expert in the music industry and podcasting.

Here are 5 ways a podcast can positively impact your business or career:

  1. You establish yourself as an expert in your industry or niche

  2. You reach a new audience

  3. You network with other professionals

  4. You market your business, product, or service

  5. You gain new leads through mentioning your website or an opt-in to your email list

Hosting vs Being a Guest

What’s better? Hosting your own podcast or being a guest?

Well, that depends on 1. your own time and resources and 2. your career goals or business marketing strategy.

Hosting Your Own Podcast

I started The Broken Glass Podcast as a way to connect with other women in the music industry, to highlight women’s stories, and to establish myself in the industry.

Hosting is fun and has impacted my career trajectory in ways I never imagined, but it is a lot of work and can take up a lot of time and energy.

If you have the time, resources, and a great idea for a podcast, then this would be a great option for you to build your career or market your business. And it doesn’t have to be expensive either - I record from my apartment with quality yet inexpensive equipment.

When you host your own podcast you develop an incredible network of guests in your industry or niche. You also become a go-to expert in your subject matter and once you’ve established trust from your audience, you can even market your products or services to them through the podcast.

Guest Speaking

If hosting your own podcast just isn’t your thing or you don’t have the time for it, then consider pitching yourself to be a guest speaker on a podcast.

As a guest on a podcast, you can share your story, your experiences, and your expertise with a whole new audience. Your story, products, or services may resonate with a listener. They’ll follow you to your social media accounts or website, opt-in to your offer, and may eventually become a fan or a client.

Podcasts are how I found new products or services. Hearing about other female entrepreneurs’ journeys are why I registered for the 6-Figure Blogger eCourse, used The Contract Shop for my website’s terms and conditions, and how I decided to become a virtual assistant with the Virtual Savvy.

People can be very skeptical and conscious of being scammed, but if someone they know and trust recommends a product or service, they’re more likely to make a purchase.

Plus, you can still build a network even as a guest. Many of my guests connect with me to chat, talk about new products, services, or music, or have even become friends and confidants. I’ve met people in person because of the podcasts I’ve listened to. I’ve attended entrepreneurship conferences and connected with other women as clients or potential business partners.

Find the right podcast to pitch yourself to and watch how your career or business grows.
