Why It’s Okay to Pivot Your Business

Why It's Okay to Pivot Your Business (1).png

This summer, I made some significant changes to Broken Glass Media and our service offerings. My offerings are entirely different than when I first launched the business in 2018.

And you know what? That's okay because my focus remains the same - highlighting women in the music and creative industries, and helping them tell their stories - it's just the "how" that changed.

How are we helping women tell their stories?

Hosting the Broken Glass Podcast inspired me to dive deep into podcasting and learning the ins-and-outs of podcast management and launches. This summer, I announced on Instagram that Broken Glass Media was now offering podcast management and launch consulting services. Woo hoo!

I want to help you - the women with boots on the ground - bring your podcast idea to life. I want to take on the day-to-day tasks involved with releasing episodes so you can focus on the more important part - connecting with your guests and building your client lists.

What do we offer?

Broken Glass Media currently offers three podcast management packages depending on your needs, plus a la cart services.

I also offer an eight-week podcast launch consulting package to help you go from idea to fully launched podcast.

And coming soon, I'll have a DIY Your Podcast eCourse for those of you who want to launch a podcast on your own.

Pivoting the business

I'll be honest, I was terrified to pivot the business. The imposter syndrome set in shortly after the excitement wore off, and I thought, "Who am I to offer podcast management services? This isn't what I wanted two years ago!"

I panicked. Would I lose the audience I worked so hard to build? How can I still say I'm part of the music industry if I pivot to podcasting?

Then came the immense guilt. I spent my entire college career and adulthood, working toward a career in the music industry. And now that I have it, I'm shunning it for a business in a different field.

Or so I thought.

In actuality, I'm still in the music industry. My podcast services are focused on supporting music and creative podcasts and entrepreneurs. I still host my podcast and speak with women in the music industry every week.

It's okay, and it will be okay.

Why it's okay to pivot

Times aren't normal right now, and businesses are doing what they have to so they can survive. Once used to touring to make a living, artists are learning how to bring their careers online to connect with their audiences in new and unique ways. Companies are learning how to digitize their offerings for customers who either don't want to or can't go out and shop.

Pivoting your services and offerings is key to staying relevant and earning an income.

When I decided not to relocate with my full-time job in the spring, I knew I had to make a decision - do I bring the business full-time, or do I start looking for (likely non-existent) jobs?

The choice was clear, and I leaned into learning how I could take a general virtual assistant business to the next level. Thanks to a fantastic coach, I launched these services at the end of the spring, and I haven't looked back!

If you're thinking about pivoting your business, but you're not sure how it will be received, know this - you need to do what's right for you and your business so you can stay afloat. It's okay, and it'll be okay.
