I am obsessed with podcasts. I would probably go so far as to call myself a podcast nerd these days, which is a total 180 from last year when I could barely stand to listen to podcasts. There was only one I could sink my teeth into (Washed Up Emo) and the rest literally just put me to sleep.

With a quarter nearly down, I wanted to take some time to reflect on the awesomeness of 2018 for women in music so far. Women's equality in the music industry was brought to light in a tremendous way  in the first part of the year, and it will most certainly set the tone for the unforeseeable future.

There's no doubt that the music industry is a hustle. Whether it's working two or more jobs, freelancing and working multiple roles, or working full time and then attending (or playing) a show, we're always moving and working.

How long can we keep this up before we spectacularly crash? 

Go ahead, turn on your local station and listen for an hour. I'll wait...

What did you hear? Notice anything about the artists played?

If you guessed that the artists were almost entirely male, well you'd be right.

You've decided you want to start a creative business. Awesome! Now comes the daunting (and sometimes not so much fun) part for us creatives: organizing the business.

Networking. The word that sends a chill through even the most social of us.

Just out of college and at the beginning of my job search, I scoffed at the idea of networking. Why do I have to go talk to people I don’t know to hopefully get a job? Can’t I just get a job on my own merits - education and experience? 

Today we celebrate women around the world - entrepreneurs, scientists, politicians, entertainers, etc. We celebrate our nurturers, our inspiration, and even ourselves.

It's hard enough getting a foot in the door in the music industry. It's even harder if you're a women trying to get in your foot in the door in the music industry.

The proof is in the numbers.
